Measure of Student Learning
As educators, it is essential that we thoughtfully and consistently assess our students throughout the year. By utilizing multiple forms of assessment and data collection, we gain a comprehensive understanding of each student's strengths and areas for growth. This valuable information empowers us to tailor our instruction, differentiate lessons, and modify our teaching strategies to meet the unique needs of every learner.
Through purposeful assessment, we not only support student achievement but also foster a learning environment where all students feel seen, supported, and capable of reaching their full potential.
Monitoring For Results: Kindergarten
During the 2021-22 academic year, I taught kindergarten, focusing on fostering student growth, particularly in English Language Arts (ELA).
Throughout this instructional period, my students made significant progress. All my students were reading at or approaching grade level- with the exception of one student.
Monitoring For Results: 4th Grade
In the 2023-24 academic year, I taught 4th grade, and by the end of the year, the majority of students demonstrated strong academic achievement. On the state math test, only four students scored below grade level, while 15 earned a level 4, and most others achieved a level 3, indicating on-grade proficiency. In reading, only five students were not at or approaching grade level.
In I-Ready, fourth-grade students made remarkable progress in ELA, increasing from 6% to 52% performing at mid or above grade level. By the end of the academic year, 78% of students were at or above grade level in math. Additionally, only nine students scored below grade level on the I-Ready math assessment.

Monitoring For Results: 1st Grade
According to Acadience testing, only five students are currently performing below grade level at the midpoint of the 2024-25 school year. Notably, students like Gloria made remarkable progress, jumping from the 31st percentile to the 90th in reading. Similarly, Sora, who was previously well below the benchmark at a score of 89, increased to 139 by the middle-of-year benchmark. For students who are still significantly below benchmark, we’ve initiated targeted progress monitoring to closely track their development and identify specific areas for improvement.
I-Ready is a valuable screening tool that helps us assess students' progress in math. At the beginning of the school year, only two students were performing at grade level. By mid-year, that number increased to five. Notably, students like Luca made exceptional progress, advancing two grade levels in Algebra (from Emerging Kindergarten to Early 1st Grade). Many other students also showed significant growth, improving by a full grade level in various math domains. To ensure even greater success, we plan to implement station-based teaching strategies, aiming for the majority of our students to reach grade level by the end-of-year assessment.
